LOS ANGELES - The New Jersey Devils tonight earned the Eastern Conference's berth in the Stanley Cup final against the Los Angeles Kings, defeating the New York Rangers, 3-2, in overtime at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. to win the series, four games to two.

The Stanley Cup final will begin Wednesday at Prudential Center, where Game 2 of the best-of-seven series will be played June 2.

Game 3 will be played at Staples Center June 4 and Game 4 June 6. Game 5, if necessary, would be played June 9 at Prudential Center.

Game 6, if necessary, would be played June 11 at Staples Center. Game 7, if necessary, would be played June 13 at Prudential Center.

The Kings lost to the Devils, 2-1, in a shootout Oct. 13 in Newark and 3- 0 Oct. 25 at Staples Center.

The Kings will be making their second appearance in the Stanley Cup final. Their other appearance came in 1993 when they lost to the Montreal Canadiens.

"That was one of the great thrills of my lifetime to get to the Stanley Cup finals when nobody expected us to do it," Wayne Gretzky, the NHL's all-time leading scorer, who played for the Kings from 1988-96, told KCAL. "Unfortunately, we didn't bring home the Stanley Cup. Maybe this team can take it to the next step."
